FUCHSE BERLIN (GER) 22-24 PICK SZEGED (HUN) (9-13)
17.05.2014 EHF CUP, semi-final, Max-Schmeling-Halle, Berlin, Germany
Great defending and impeccable saves by Mikler took Pick Szeged to the Big Final in EHF CUP. The hosts put lot a of effort and money organizing the Final Four event in this competition, but Pastor’s squad did not have any respect for Fuchse Berlin. The key moments of the match, were actually the first five minutes and 3-0 series for the Hungarians, a lead that they kept till the end of the match. Fuchse had a penalty shot one minute to the end but Igropulo could not pass Mickler, and instead of just one goal difference, it was all over for the “Foxes”. The key difference in both teams were the goalkeepers, on one side there were the great saves of Mikler, and on the other just weak copy of what Silvio Heinevetter
could be. Although before the end of the first half Stochl replaced Silvio, great strategy and better motivation just prevailed, which meant that the hosts will have to satisfy with match for
third place. Best players in the winning team was Zsolt Balogh with 6, Ferenc Ilyés and Jonas Erik Larholm scored 5. Bartlomiej Jaszka and Mattias Zachrisson scored 6 times for Fuchse Berlin.
